What about “Serving It Right answers”?
We don’t publish answers to the real exam, and nobody honestly can: the questions are drawn at random from the program’s own bank, so every exam is different. Answer lists you find online aren’t from the program, may be out of date, and using one would break the declaration you sign that you did the exam on your own.
What works is knowing the rules the questions test. The official course is built around three modules, and the exam follows them:
| Course module | What you need to know |
|---|---|
| 1. Alcohol and your legal responsibilities | Hours of service, the half-hour rules, minors, BC’s two-ID rule, intoxicated patrons, duty of care on and off the premises, inspections and penalties |
| 2. Intoxication and impairment | How intoxication happens, factors like food, weight, sex, fatigue and tolerance, signs to watch for, alcohol with other drugs, standard drinks and BAC |
| 3. Responsible beverage service | Establishment policy, door control, teamwork, incident logs, cutting off service, getting patrons home safely, forcible ejection |
The rules people most often need to know
- The legal drinking age is 19. A minor is anyone under 19.
- Two pieces of ID when there’s any doubt someone is 19: one government-issued with name, birth date and photo, plus one with name and signature or photo.
- Liquor service can run from 9 a.m. to 4 a.m. at the widest, but only during the hours on your licence.
- Half an hour after service ends, bar patrons must be out of the service area; in restaurants, drinks must be off the tables.
- Never serve a person who is intoxicated or showing signs of intoxication, and don’t let anyone become intoxicated.
- A standard drink is 12 oz of 5% beer, 5 oz of 12% wine or 1.5 oz of 40% spirits.
- Anyone asked to leave can’t come back for at least 24 hours.
- Incident logs are kept for at least six years.
Then test yourself: our free practice test is 35 questions with an 80% pass mark, like the real one.
